The FIFA World Cup 2022 that is being held in Qatar was under a lot of scrutiny before the World Cup that their human rights were not good and that the migrant workers were not treated well in their nation. All negativity was being spread and the talk was rarely about football and it was expected that this would be the worst FIFA World Cup of all time. However what has happened in the past month has been totally the opposite and I will explain later in the article. I am so happy that the conversation is about football only

I have watched the FIFA World Cup since 2002 and in these 20 years I have never had a World Cup where crazier things have happened. This World Cup is for the history books and it will always be remembered not for the outside issues but for the high quality football that we have seen throughout the tournament. I am sad that only 4 matches are left and then we will have to wait another 4 years. Let’s see why this World Cup is the best of all time.

The most competitive FIFA World Cup

I cannot remember a World Cup where the level of competition amongst the teams was this equal and that any team could beat the other on any given day and the ranking or the standard of that team mattered much. Most of the 32 teams that were in this World Cup had the capability of beating the other and it made this World Cup not boring and it was great to see the development that some of the nations have made in football in the last 4 and a half years.

The greatest group stages of all time

Most FIFA World Cups have a great knockout stage but the group stages is where the overall quality of the tournament goes down. However it was exactly the opposite this World Cup as we had the pleasure of watching the greatest group stages in history. It all started when Saudi Arabia beat Argentina and shocked the world and then Japan beat both Spain and Germany and made a name for themselves. Morocco achieved the impossible and it was great to see. We were having close matches and goal fests all at the same time. Hopefully from the text of the World Cup as well FIFA keeps it at groups of 4.

The giants fell down

If a World Cup has all the favorite teams advancing then there is no excitement and in this World Cup there was no lack of that as we saw so many great teams that were considered favorites to win the World Cup fall down. We saw Uruguay go out in the Group stages then we saw Belgium get knocked out in the group stages as well. In the knockouts we saw Brazil being knocked out and then we saw Spain getting beat by Morocco and Portugal suffer the same fate. The smaller teams knocking out the bigger Teams is what makes the World Cup great.
