The Dutch team once again fought hard before suffering a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as it was Sri Lanka’s first win at the tournament. During that game, Netherlands cricketers Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek set up a record-breaking partnership for the seventh wicket that broke two Indian memorable ODI World Cup partnership records.

Lucknow hosted that Sri Lanka vs Netherlands day match on October 21, 2023. After the Netherlands chose to bat first, they were once struggling at 91/6. However, the 130-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek helped the Dutch side set up a challenging total.

The Netherlands scored 262 all out in 49.4 overs. While Engelbrecht scored 70 runs in 82 balls (four fours and only six), Van Beek scored 59 off 75 balls (only four and only six). In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the target in 48.2 overs after losing five wickets.

Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek’s 130-run partnership was the highest seventh or lower-wicket partnership in the Cricket World Cup history

The 130-run partnership wasn’t only the highest seventh-wicket partnership in the Cricket World Cup history (Check List 1), but it was also the highest Cricket World Cup partnership for the seventh or lower wickets (Check List 2).

The previous highest seventh wicket CWC partnership was 116 runs between the Indian cricketers MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (vs New Zealand at Manchester on July 9, 2019).

For the seventh or lower wickets, the previous CWC record partnership was 126 not out for the ninth wicket partnership between the Indian cricketers Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani (vs Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells on June 18, 1983).
