Options for KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for the Team in 2023 ODI World Cup

The ODI World Cup is just a few months away and the problems for the Indian team are not getting over as 2 of the main batters who would be a part of the World Cup squad are out injured and there is no guarantee that KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be able to make the World Cup team and therefore the options have to be kept ready in case those 2 are not available. And the Indian team has been trying to test a few players in those places which will be talked about below

So, let’s look at the options for KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for the World Cup.

Surya Kumar Yadav

Surya Kumar Yadav is the first option that has been tried in the middle order but how form in the ODIs has not been great because in the 25 ODIs he has played for India, he has an average of less than 30 and not a single score of 100. His strike rate has also fallen well below his T20I strike rate. He has to deliver in the Asia Cup because if he fails in that important tournament then there will be no hope of taking him to the World Cup. He will get at least 6 more ODIs to prove that he deserved to go to the World Cup.

Sanju Samson

Another batter that can be in the running for the World Cup squad as an option for the 2 main players is Sanju Samson as he has been there in the Indian setup for a long time but he has never got a long run of opportunities but that could change because he will get 5 T20IS vs West Indies and most likely the 6 Matches in the Asia Cup so he will have 11 Matches and in those Matches he can score a couple of hundreds and a couple of half centuries then nothing will stop him from going to the World Cup and he will play his first ICC tournament for India. He made a good 50 in the last ODI vs West Indies.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan has to be an option for the middle order as well on top of being an option in the Top order because India has its 2 openers for the World Cup in Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma who is the captain. And if KL Rahul is not fit in time then Ishan Kishan will have to be tried in the middle order as well and he has had an incredible ODI Series vs West Indies as he made 3 half centuries in 3 innings and he made sure that he will be picked in the World Cup team because by 5th August the squad has to be submitted. He was tried in the middle order for the Asia Cup and if he does well then he can be a solid option in the middle order as well as be the wicket keeper.
