On the last day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 (Sunday, 16 July) in Bangkok (Thailand), India claimed two medals in the women’s 5000m final. Parul Chaudhary won the silver medal, and Ankita shined the day with the bronze medal.

Last Friday (14 July), 28-year-old Parul already put her name to the headline by winning the gold medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023. Now the women’s 3000m national record holder brought the second medal for her country in the Championships by winning a silver in the women’s 5000m after finishing the race in 15:52.35 seconds.
Last May, during the Sound Running On Track Fest 2023, Parul also set up a national record in the women’s 5000m by clocking 15:10.35.
In the women’s 5000m, Japanese Yuma Yamamoto (15:51.16s) was the best performer to win the gold medal.
Ankita shined with bronze
On the other hand, 21-year-old Ankita also managed a podium finish for India as she completed the race in the third position (16:03.33s). The youngster is shining for the country in her early days.
