1.219(149) vs West Indies- 4th ODI 2011

Both the players gave India a formidable start. However, Gambhir departed after a half-century. Sehwag kept the momentum going and smashed the ball all along the ground. He hit 25 boundaries and 7 sixes and scored 219 runs. He passed Sachin's record of 200 as the highest score in ODI's. India posted a total of 418/5.


 

West Indies in reply got all out for 265 runs. India won the match and Sehwag won the man-of-the-match award. It was his best knock ever.

 

2. 309(375) vs Pakistan- 1st test, Multan 2004

 

Virender Sehwag became the first ever Indian to score 300 runs in a test match. It was against Pakistan in 2004. India won the toss and elected to bat first. Sehwag smashed the devastating Pakistani bowling line up like anything. He hit 39 fours and 6 sixes and maintained a strike rate of 82. This helped India post a huge total of 675.


 


Pakistan fought well but collapsed and could manage only 407 in their first Innings. They were forced to follow on, and, in the second Innings, they could pull only 216 runs. Thus, India won the match by an innings and 52 runs. Sehwag became the man of the match.

 

3. 319(304) vs South Africa- 1st Test 2008



 

Sehwag created history once again in this match, by scoring a three hundred and became the first ever Indian to score two 300's in test match cricket. South Africa batted first and scored a whopping total of 540. However, India answered back perfectly and scored 627 runs. It was possible because of Sehwag who scored 319 runs from just 304 balls and maintained a strike rate of 104. People were confused about whether he was playing test or T20 match. He smashed 42 fours and 5 sixes. India took the lead. However, the match ended in a draw. Sehwag was awarded the man of the match award.

 

4. 293(254) vs Sri Lanka- 3rd Test 2009

 

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. They managed a decent total of 393. It was then Sehwag took the bat in his hands and hit the Sri Lankan bowlers left and right. He hit 40 boundaries and 7 sixes to score 293. Sadly, he tried to hit the ball in the air and departed before registering another 300.


 

Sri Lankan batsmen could not withstand the pressure and got all out for just 309 runs. India won the test match by an innings and 24 runs. Sehwag got the man of the match award.

 

5. 254(247) vs Pakistan, 1st Test 2006

 

This was another India, Pakistan encounter where Sehwag showed his dominance over the whole world. Pakistan batted first and scored 679 runs. It was a huge target but India knew to fight back. Sehwag opened batting along Rahul Dravid. Sehwag played his natural game and scored at a strike rate of above 100. He hit 47 boundaries and a six and scored 254 runs. Dravid, on the other hand, played his natural game and scored at a strike rate of just above 50.



The match ended in a draw as neither of the team could bat their second innings. Virender Sehwag won the man of the match award. However, had Sehwag not played this innings India could have suffered a humiliating defeat.
