Ambati Rayudu has officially retired from international cricket after playing 55 One day internationals for India. Rayudu was not picked by Indian selectors for the Cricket World Cup, and even after the injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar he was ignored. Rayudu in his ODI career scored 1694 runs at an average of 47, that included 3 centuries and 10 Fifties. He also represented India in Six T20 Internationals.

The middle-order batsman had written an email to Saba Karim, who is BCCI’s General Manager for Cricket operations regarding his retirement. Rayudu in his email wrote, “ I would like to bring to your kind notice that I have decided to step away from the sport, and retire from all forms and levels of Cricket”.

Rayudu also thanked BCCI and all the state association that he represented during the course of his career, that included Hyderabad, Baroda, Andhra, and Vidharbha.

Rayudu was disappointed after he was not a part of India’s World Cup squad, and was in the news for his tweet in which he said: “ Just ordered a new pair of 3D glasses for the World Cup”. This was in response to the statement given by the selectors regarding Vijay Shankar and told the media that he was preferred over Rayudu because he is a 3-dimensional cricketer.

Rayudu’s international career was a short one as he was unable to become a regular member during his career. His Performances in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, helped him make a comeback in the Indian Squad and was the first choice for India to bat at number 4. But a string of low scores meant he was overlooked by the selectors and was unable to make it in the World Cup.
