Getting out for 99 runs is one of the saddest stories for a batter in the game of cricket. It becomes tougher to accept if the batter loses his wicket on 99 runs through a run out. Denmark's opening batter Hamid Shah recently became the first batter to get run out on 99 runs in T20I cricket history.

It was the match between Denmark and Finland at Brondby on 8th May 2022, which was also the third or final match of the three-match T20I series. While the bilateral series was standing at the level by 1-1 before that game, both teams had a crucial encounter in that series finale.

Denmark Hamid Shah was run out on 99 on the last ball of the innings

After electing to bat first, Denmark managed to score 164/4 in 20 overs. Opener Hamid Shah batted till the 20th over to score 99 runs off 67 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes. While the final ball of that innings was a free hit and Hamid was just one run away from his maiden T20 century, he was run out on that ball without adding a run.

It was a very unlucky end for him as he also became the first batter in T20I history to be involved in a run out on 99 runs. Meanwhile, it was the second time in T20I history when a batter was dismissed on 99 runs. English cricketer Alex Hales was the first player in T20I history to lose the wicket on 99 runs when West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul bowled him for 99 runs during only T20I at Nottingham on 24th June 2012.

In overall international cricket, the latest incident was the 122nd time when a batter lost his wicket at the exact score of 99 runs. Meanwhile, Hamid became the 22nd batter in international cricket history to be involved in a run out on 99 runs.

On the other hand, Hamid Shah was the 14th batter in T20 cricket history to lose the wicket on 99 runs. In the meantime, Hamid was the fourth batter in T20 history to be involved in a run out on 99 runs.
