In the low-scoring Lucknow T20I, the hosts India ultimately managed to level the series with a hard-fought six-wicket win with one ball remaining. It was a complete T20I match among ICC Full Members with the most deliveries without a sixer.

Leading the three-match series by 1-0, the visitors New Zealand chose to bat first during the second game at Lucknow. While New Zealand were restricted to 99/8 in 20 overs, the hosts took 19.5 overs to chase the 100-run target after losing four wickets. Though the hosts were mostly in control during that game, they were also very close to suffering a surprising defeat on a tough batting wicket.

During that T20I, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket (2-1-4-1) to surpass the right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to become the leading T20I wicket-taker for India. While Bhuvi has taken 90 wickets in 87 T20Is, Chahal has picked up 91 wickets in 75 T20Is.

The 99/8 was the lowest completed T20I total for New Zealand against India. Their previous record in this list was 111 in 17.2 overs at Kolkata on 21st November 2021.
