Shining star of the Under 19 World Cup series and India’s most promising rising star, Yashasvi Jaiswal has proclaimed he has not yet manifested his best form as the batsman hammered 185 runs off of 243 balls with 19 boundaries and one six in the under 23 CK Nayudu Trophy, including a century for Mumbai against Pondicherry at the Wankhede Stadium.
Jaiswal received international renown for his prodigious performance on the pitch in the Under-19 cricket world cup in South Africa, wherein India lost to Bangladesh by a hair. In just about 6 innings the player managed to amass more than 5 half-centuries and one century.
His scores in the successive innings of the tournament objectively never dipped below the 50 run mark (barring the match against Japan, where the total chase target was below 50). The batsmen scored 88, 105*, 62, 57*, 29* and 59 in the matches.
So far, his prowess between the wickets has helped him secure a lucrative deal in the 2020 Indian Premier League Auctions where Rajasthan Royals paid 2.4 crore rupees to sign the player, with the tournament beginning at the end of March.
"For me, it is a very good opportunity to play in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals because I can go and talk with the World's best players like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler. I am really excited to learn from them. It will be exciting for me as it is my first IPL and I will try my best to do whatever I can," said Jaiswal, in an interview.
Initially, Yashasvi rose to spotlight on becoming the youngest List A double centurion in the world after striking a meta defining 203, with 12 sixes and 17 boundaries, for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, in a match against Jharkhand, at merely 17 years and 292 days of age. Yashasvi was also the 7th Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KV Kaushal, and Sanju Samson.
Needless to say, the young batsman is still in the preliminary stage of his career and his skill and prowess will be put to test throughout the course of time: what is known for sure, is that the best is yet to come in Jaiswal’s career.
