Since arriving at Liverpool in 2017, Mohamed Salah has taken the Premier League by a storm. In his first season itself, he registered his name in the record of the greatest number of goals in a season of 38 games and became the 9thth player to cross the 30-goal mark.

Here we take a look at the top 5 players who have scored the greatest number of goals in a season:

5) Cristiano Ronaldo- 31 goals- Manchester United (2007/08):

After arriving at Old Trafford in 2003 and training under the proper guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, Cristiano Ronaldo had one of his best seasons for Manchester United back in 2007-08 scoring 31 goals in the league and leading the team to a Premier League and a UCL win. This is the season which transformed Ronaldo into a part of what he is right now. Gravity-defying free-kicks, bursts of pace, a stepover or a shimmy or stunning headers, he had it all. Ronaldo won his first Ballon D’ Or later that season.

4) Luis Suarez- 31 goals- Liverpool (2013/14):

A prolific striker in his prime days, Luis Suarez enjoyed one of the best individual seasons in his career back in 2013/14 when he bagged 31 goals and 17 assists from 33 games for the Reds from Merseyside. He also bagged quite a several awards including the PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season and Premier League Golden Boot award.

3) Mohamed Salah- 32 goals- Liverpool (2017/18):

During Klopp’s main rebuild of the English giants, he signed Mohamed Salah from Roma, he had some experience and skills up his sleeve who was also a decent player. Salah experienced one the most outstanding seasons in Liverpool history in 2017/18, breaking several records along the way. From a goal in his debut against Watford to scoring 32 goals in the league, that too playing as a winger and not a forward. He is also the 3rd player to score against 17 opponents in a season.

2) Alan Shearer- 34 goals- Blackburn Rovers (1994/95):

Sometimes people tend to forget how good Alan Shearer was, at everything he did. He was more of a complete package rather than pointing out a specific attribute. Alan Shearer toppled the 30-goal mark thrice in his entire career and he was one of the main reasons that Blackburn was able to win the Premier League back in 94/95.  Strong, being able to hold up the ball well, pinpoint positioning, incredible leap, bullet header and a shot that could break walls, Shearer always terrified defences.

1) Andy Cole- 34 goals- Newcastle United (1993/94):

Andy Cole, 22 at the time netted 34 times in the entire season leading up to the Football World Cup held in the USA. Cole was signed from Bristol City in the Feb of 1993 and he started showing his colours since arriving. He partnered with Peter Beardsley, who when added to Cole, contributed to the 68% of all goals of Newcastle that season. Cole was a complete package of explosive pace, elusive movement and unerring finishing even though he wasn’t a complete Centre Forward.
