Ferrari has been off the pace all season, and nothing summed up their poor run of form at their 1000th Grand Prix at Mugello. It was a disruptive race, and the Scuderia racers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel managed to procure only 5 points in between them.

Speaking to the media after the game, Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri said, “Listen, we are in a hole now, and we know we are in a hole. It’s a confluence of factors and anything I say will come across as excuses. And we’re not into excuses.”

“So what matters is to focus on the issues we have and to work with determination to get back to what we consider to be our rightful place.”

In fact, the hole that Ferrari has dug them into has been so deep that Leclerc himself has complained about the pace of his car. This is all the more difficult for Ferrari, given they have more or less resigned themselves to their fate this season. The Italian team has garnered only 66 points in the Constructors Championship, and is currently in 6th place. Ferrari has more or less dependent on Leclerc only, and they will be desperate to fix the problem.

Mattia Binotto, Ferrari’s Team Principal said,” Leclerc is right, we are disappointed. We had no race pace. After a few laps we lose pace, the result is the consequence. There is no explanation. We suffer from a marked deterioration of the tires. It is a difficult project.”

“The basic situation is profound, we must certainly make progress, it will already be there from the next race, but it won’t make a difference.”

It is well-known that the engine has been a huge pain point for Ferrari this season. There has been a significant drop in pace, even in qualifying that most experts feel will not be solved by minor updates. Recent regulations have also stated that constructors will not be allowed to modify car components.
