IPL 2008 Orange Cap: Shaun Marsh (KXIP)  


In IPL 2008, Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh was the key player of Kings XI Punjab and scored 616 runs in 11 matches with five half-centuries and one century (115 runs) at an average of 68.44. His massive contribution helped the team to reach the semi-final in that inaugural edition.


IPL 2009 Orange Cap: Matthew Hayden (CSK)  


In IPL 2009, Australian legend Matthew Hayden was the leading run-scorer of the session with 572 runs in 12 Innings with five half-centuries at an average of 52. However, in the semi-final, Chennai Super Kings’ hopes of entering the final for a second time were crushed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore who beat them by six wickets.


IPL 2010 Orange Cap: Sachin Tendulkar (MI)  


In IPL 2010, it was Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar of Mumbai Indians who was awarded the Orange Cap. The former Indian captain made 618 runs in 15 matches with five half-centuries at an impressive strike rate of 132.61. Despite Mumbai losing to Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2010 final, it was Sachin Tendulkar, who was adjudged the Player of the Series apart from the Orange Cap.


IPL 2011 Orange Cap: Chris Gayle (RCB)  


In IPL 2011, West Indies batting giant Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore bagged the Orange Cap. He made a total of 608 runs in 12 matches with the highest score of 107. Gayle made two hundreds and three fifties which included 56 fours and 44 sixes. Royal Challengers Bangalore finished top of the points table but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL 2011.


IPL 2012 Orange Cap: Chris Gayle (RCB)  


For consecutive years, Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore was the leading scorer of the season. In IPL 2012, the Caribbean legend Gayle made 733 runs in 15 matches with a fantastic strike rate of 160.74. The big guy smashed one century and seven half-centuries including 46 fours and 59 sixes. RCB finished fifth in the table failing to make it to the playoff stage.


IPL 2013 Orange Cap: Michaell Hussey (CSK)  


In IPL 2013, Australian Michael Hussey was the leading run scorer with 733 runs in 17 matches with six half-centuries. In that season, Chennai Super Kings marked out its presence in the final but lost the final against Mumbai Indians.


IPL 2014 Orange Cap: Robin Uthappa (KKR)  


In IPL 2014, it was Kolkata Knight Riders’ player Robin Uthappa who bagged the Orange Cap, becoming the second Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar. Uthappa made 660 runs in 16 matches which included five fifties and a highest score of 83 not out. He hit 74 fours and 18 sixes in that season helping Gautam Gambhir's side become the IPL champions for the second time.


IPL 2015 Orange Cap: David Warner (SRH)  



In IPL 2015, David Warner of Australia took the Orange Cap riding on his extraordinary batting performance. In 14 matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad's captain scored 562 runs with a fantastic strike rate of 156.54. He smashed seven fifties along with 65 fours and 21 sixes. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished in a disappointing sixth place.


IPL 2016 Orange Cap: Virat Kohli (RCB)  


In IPL 2016, it was Virat Kohli who bagged the Orange Cap. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain was impressive as he smashed the record 973 runs in 16 matches with four hundreds and seven fifties at a massive strike rate of 152.03. Kohli slammed 83 fours and 38 sixes in that tournament. Due to his amazing batting performance, RCB marked its presence in the final but lost against SRH by eight runs.


IPL 2017 Orange Cap: David Warner (SRH)  


In IPL 2017, David Warner produced extraordinary batting performances and won the orange cap by scoring 641 runs in 14 matches. His 126 against the Kolkata Knight Riders is the highest by a captain in the history of IPL. The team had qualified for playoffs but got knocked out by Kolkata Knight Riders in Eliminator and finished 4th at the end of the tournament.


IPL 2018 Orange Cap: Kane Williamson (SRH)  


In IPL 2018, Kane Williamson completely justified his opportunity of being the new captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was awarded the Orange Cap in the IPL 2018. The New Zealand cricketer had scored 735 runs in 17 matches which included eight half-centuries with an average of 52.50 at a strike rate of 142.44. SRH had beaten the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2 to reach the Final where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets to finish the season as runners-up.

IPL 2019 Orange Cap: David Warner (SRH)  



After the comeback to the cricket field, David Warner played beautifully throughout the season. In 12 matches, the Australian left-handed batter scored 692 runs with an average of 69.20 and a strike Rate of 143.86. He recorded one hundred and eight half-centuries in that IPL season. After finishing fourth in the points table, Warner's SunRisers Hyderabad were eliminated from the Eliminator. 


IPL 2020 Orange Cap: KL Rahul  



In the IPL 2020, Kings XI Punjab’s KL Rahul was the leading run scorer with 670 runs in 14 matches with an average of 55.83 and a strike rate of 129.34. He was in outstanding form during the IPL 2020 held in UAE, where the Indian right-handed batter scored one century and five half-centuries, including the highest score of 132 not out. However, KXIP finished that tournament in sixth place.

IPL 2021 Orange Cap: Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK)  



During IPL 2021, Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad shined with the bat. While Chennai Super Kings finished as the champions, Gaikwad scored 635 runs in 16 matches with an average of 45.35 and a strike rate of 136.26, including one century and four half-centuries.


IPL 2022 Orange Cap: Jos Buttler (RR)  


English cricketer Jos Buttler was unstoppable at the IPL 2022. In the IPL 2022, the Rajasthan Royals star scored 863 runs in 17 matches with an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05. During that tournament, the right-handed batter hit four centuries and four half-centuries. Although Rajasthan Royals reached the IPL 2022 Final, the debutant IPL team Gujarat Titans beat them in the Final.


IPL 2023 Orange Cap: Shubman Gill (GT)  


Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill was outstanding at the IPL 2023. The right-handed opening batter hit three centuries and four half-centuries in that competition as he scored 890 runs in 17 matches with an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. However, the Gujarat Titans failed to win the IPL title for back-to-back seasons as the defending champions finished as the runners-up in the IPL 2023.
