Inter Kashi are the side that is drawing interest for the new season as they are one of the two corporate entries in the I-League this season. After AIFF announced they would accept bids for new clubs to join from the 2023/24 campaign the Varanasi franchise reached an agreement with RDB Group of Companies and European clubs Atlético Madrid and Inter Escaldes to form the team. The name ‘Inter’ was also added because of the tie-up with the Andorra-based football club.
Hence, Inter Kashi became the first-ever professional club based in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. They are also among the front-runners for the league title this season making a series of eye-catching signings in the transfer window. Inter Kashi have made their intention clear of gaining promotion to the ISL sooner rather than later. The club also announced the creation of the Atlético de Bharat Academy for the development of grassroots football in the state.
The side will play their first match in the I-League against former winners Gokulam Kerala on 28th October 2023 which is a history-making clash for them. Their home stadium for the season, Ekana Arena in Lucknow will not be available till next month so Inter Kashi will play their first four games away from their state. Their next game is against last season’s runners-up Sreenidi Deccan so it will be an early tester for the team to show their mantle against two other title contenders this season.
Inter Kashi will face the other new club in the league, Namdhari FC on 6th November 2023 in Punjab. The first home game for the team will be a huge one against Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting who are also aiming for the top spot. The match will take place on 21st November 2023. They will conclude action in the year exactly a month later with a trip to Aizawl hoping to be in a strong position on the table by then.
