When it comes to test cricket, it is always tough for the visiting team to beat the series hosting nation. Because of the familiarity of the conditions most of the teams find it hard to beat the home side. The golden period of test cricket is finally back. At the moment the whole world is enjoying the most classical version of cricket all around the globe. Today, we are going to talk about the toughest team to beat at their home.

Currently, the Indian Cricket Team led by Virat Kohli have broken all the records to become the team to defeat. In the history of the game, no team has been more difficult to beat at home. India's Test team under Virat Kohli has been ruthless at home and has won two huge series in Australia apart from giving good competition to the likes of England and South Africa in their own den.

Virat Kohli, who is the most successful test captain of India, has a win percentage of above 58, which is only behind the Aussie duos of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, among players to have captained their teams in 50 or more matches.

India’s impressive performance over the years helped them to move into the world record territory. India won their 13th consecutive series on home soil after beating England in the Ahmedabad Test. No team in the history of the game has been so consistent. Australia had won 10 Test series twice in a row with the streaks ending in 2000 and 2008.

India’s last series defeat at home came in 2012-13, when England recovered after losing the first Test in Ahmedabad to win the next two in Mumbai and Kolkata. The last Test of the series in Nagpur ended in a draw.

Along the way India won Test series against West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and England at home while their only overseas triumph during this time came in Australia. Despite losing in the WTC Final against New Zealand, India was the most consistent and successful team in the WTC with 12 wins, 4 losses and a draw from the 17 Tests they played since August 2019.

Let’s have a look at India’s record since losing to England in 2012-13.

Looking at the results that they are creating consistently and regularly they are winning matches. Steve Waugh's Australians from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s and the kind of dominance that Clive Lloyd's West Indies group had from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. It wasn't fair Lloyd, it was Viv Richards and after that Brian Lara for a couple of a long time. So, once you have a group which is as good as the groups of West Indies and Australia - India's group, this one, needs to be the most excellent in its history. You may contend that the teams in 1971 and 1986 that moreover won exceptionally consistently, but this team is winning all over. And with that wonderful win in Australia, after having a batting collapse by getting all out on a score of just 36, it has clearly raised the bar significantly. So, I think after 10-15 years later, this team will be called the most excellent of all the Indian Teams over the years.
