It is absolutely unbelievable that this is being talked about as a real possibility because just a few years back this was thought to be impossible till the time Vince McMahon was alive and it came from Vince McMahon himself which was more shockingly and although he did not say we will sell but he told that we would be looking at outside opportunities and this was enough to get the conversation started.

The sale of WWE is one of the biggest talking points in the world of sports these days and although a sale in 2023 looks very unlikely, there is no harm in discussing the possibility and the implications of the potential sale.

So, let’s discuss

Will WWE be sold in 2023?

The first question that comes to mind is that WWE will be sold in the year 2023 and the answer is a big no and there are reasons for it. Firstly WWE is doing its best ever business and it is in the best creative space since years and so WWE will want to give control to an outside entity. And Vince McMahon must have meant the TV rights deal which are set to come up this year with both USA Network and Fox Sports. Vince McMahon is back basically to negotiate these rights deals.

Who are the potential buyers for WWE?

There are a lot of potential suitors who would be very interested in buying WWE should the company put itself on sale this year. The most obvious ones are NBC Universal with whom WWE has a long standing partnership with which goes over 30 years or Fox Network who has been a great partner for WWE since the last 4 years and most likely will continue their partnership for years to come. Then there are the likes of Disney who has been linked as a buyer of WWE for a long time and then there is Warner Bros Discovery shd that would be ironic considering their main competitors run in their TV network. Netflix and Amazon are also possible options as they need live Sports content.

The implications of the potential sale

The implications of the potential sale are very big as first the McMahon family will no longer have control of WWE and an outside entity will control WWE although the new buyers will allow Triple H and company to run WWE as they see fit. The second implication is that there will most likely be layoffs due to budget cuts and that is not ideal for anybody so WWE would want to avoid that. WWE will go for over $10 billion dollars and that is a great valuation for the company and so the owners will want results.
