Yogi, as he is fondly known, is one of the most seasoned campaigners in wrestling after Sushil Kumar, and has represented the country in several international events.

Yogeshwar Dutt (born 2 November 1982) is an Indian freestyle wrestler. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the 60 kg category. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013. He won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.


 

The wrestler had an illustrious career and here we are taking a look at 10 interesting and unknown facts about him:

 

  1. From the very young age of 8, YogeshwarDutt started wrestling. Balraj Pehlwan, who was his inspiration from his native village Sonipat and he was trained under the guidance of coach ralph.

 

  1. Yogeshwar Dutt, the wrestler from Haryana came into limelight after winning the gold medal in Commonwealth Games in 2003.

 

  1. Yogeshwar Dutt is the only third Indian wrestler to win an Olympics medal, after K D Jadhav in 1952 and Sushil Kumar in 2008 and 2012.


  1. Yogeshwar Dutt, the iron man of India, lost his father on 3 August 2006 just nine days before he boarded the flight to Doha for the Asian Games. He also had a knee injury, but despite this, he won the bronze at 15th Asian Games at Doha.


  1. Yogeshwar Dutt had a continuous growth in his career graph. He won gold in 2003 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship, bronze in 2006 Asian Games in Doha, gold in 2010 Commonwealth Games. He also made a hat-trick in 2014 Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal. He also won one more gold medal in 2014 Asian Games.


  1. Yogeshwar Dutt was awarded Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2012 for his exceptional Contribution towards the game.



  1. Yogeshwar Dutt is the highest paid Indian at No. 7 with an earning of INR 1.65 lacs per minute for playing in Pro Wrestling League.


  1. Yogeshwar Dutt represented India for the first time at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and participated in the 55 kg freestyle wrestling event and stood 18th.


  1. Yogeshwar Dutt’s bronze medal which he won in 2012 London Olympics,  got upgraded to silver after Russia’s Besik Kudukhov’s sample tested positive. Besik Kudukhov died in 2013 at the age of 27 in a car accident in Russia.


  1. YogeshwarDutt was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2013.
