Asian Athletics Championships 2023: Indian Teams Win Medals In Men's And Women's 4x400m Relay

Asian Athletics Championships 2023 Indian Teams Win Medals In Mens And Womens 4x400m Relay

Indian team won silver in the men’s 4×400 metres relay and clinched bronze in the women’s 4×400 metres relay on the fifth or final day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 (Sunday, 16 July) in Bangkok (Thailand).

In the men’s 4×400m relay final, the Sri Lankan team [Aruna Dharshana, Rajitha Niranjan, Pabasara Niku, and Kalinga Kumarage (Pasindu Kodikara participated only in the preliminary heats)] ended the race as the gold medalist with a championship record and national record (3:01.56s).  

Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Variyathodi, Mijo Kurian and Rajesh Ramesh participated for India in that final as the country secured the silver medal after clocking the race in 3:01.80s. Rahul Kadam and Nihal William also received medals as they participated in the preliminary heats.

Both Amoj Jacob and Rajesh Ramesh were also part of the Indian mixed team in the 4×400m relay, where the country already won the crown with a championship record.

Meanwhile, Qatar [Bassem Hemeida, Abubaker Abdalla, Ismail Abakar, and Ashraf Osman (Abdirahman Hassan and Doudai Oumar only featured in the preliminary heats)] clinched the bronze medal with their season-best performance (3:04.26s).

In the women’s 4×400m relay final, Vietnam (Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Huyen and Nguyen Thi Hang) won the gold medal (3:32.36s), and Sri Lanka (Nadeesha Ramanayaka, Lakshima Mendis, Nishendra Harshani Fernando and Tharushi Dissanayaka) clinched the silver medal with a national record (3:33.27s).

The Indian team were the third finisher in that race (3:33.73s). Rezoana Mallick Heena, Aishwarya Kailash Mishra, Jyothika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan were the members of the Indian women’s team in that bronze medal success.

Aishwarya Kailash Mishra and Subha Venkatesan were also the gold medalist members for the Indian mixed team in the 4×400m relay in the Bangkok Championships.
