The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team has returned to the Asian Games gold medal podium, as the team brought India’s sixth gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. It was the first athletics gold medal at the Asian Games 2026.
Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi Choudhary, and Vithya Ramraj represented India in this event, as the team took 3:29.69 minutes to snatch the gold medal. Bahrain clinched the silver medal (3:30.21), while China finished third to secure the bronze medal (3:31.02).
It is one of India's most successful events in the history of the Asian Games, as the Indian team delivered the seventh gold medal and the 12th overall medal in the women’s 4x400m relay team (7 golds and 5 silvers). Between 2002 and 2018, the Indian team won five straight Asian Games gold medals in this event, while the team won a silver in the 2022 edition. India recorded its first Asian Games gold in this event in 1986.

Vithiya won her third medal at the Asian Games 2026, while Kiran, Poovamma, and Prachi claimed their respective second medal in the ongoing Asiad. Earlier, Vithiya (only Final) was also a member, along with Poovamma (both Heats and Final) and Kiran (only Heats), who won the silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay team event. Further, on the last day, Vithiya also won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles. Meanwhile, Prachi Choudhary claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 400m event.
