Tajinderpal Singh Toor closely failed to complete his Asian Games gold medal hat-trick as the Indian men’s shot-putter claimed the silver medal at the Asian Games 2026, while the Iranian Mohammad Reza Tayebi shined with the gold medal after setting a new Asian Games record.
Despite Tajinderpal and Tayebi producing a strong fight, the Iranian was always the leader, and secured the gold medal with his second throw, 20.81m. Breaking Tajinderpal’s record of 20.75m (in 2018), Tayebi set a new Asian Games record. Tayebi’s other successful throws managed 20.30m (1st throw), 20.60m (4th throw), and 20.48m (6th throw).
Starting the battle with the 20.06m and 20.26m throws, Tajinderpal then recorded two just below 20m (19.77m and 19.71), while his penultimate throw secured the silver medal with a distance of 20.64m. His last throw was a fault, as the Indian shot-putter failed to complete his Asian Games gold medal hat-trick, as he had previously won it in 2018 and 2022. However, with the silver, he has three Asian Games medals.
Mohammed Tolu from Saudi Arabia produced his season-best throw of 20.48m to claim the bronze medal. There were no other athletes to cross the 19.50m mark on the evening.
Another Indian, Karanveer Singh, finished in 10th place with his best throw of the night, 18.40m. Sim Samedy from Cambodia (15.53m) finished in the 13th or final place but managed his personal best performance.

Who is Tajinderpal Singh Toor?
Tajinderpal Singh Toor is now a popular Indian shot-putter, who just recorded his third Asian Games medal, previously winning golds in 2018 and 2022. He also has two gold medals at the Asian Athletics Championships (2019 and 2023) and Asian Indoor Athletics Championships (2023 and 2024), while winning a gold medal in the South Asian Games 2019.
In the Commonwealth Games 2018 and 2026, Tajinderpal finished in eighth and fifth places, respectively. In both the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics, he failed to reach the finals.
