With his season-best performance, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen lifted the first-ever men’s 5000m crown in the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, which Budapest (Hungary) is hosting for the first time.
For the first 3300m race, Jakob never managed to reach the top seven positions, but then he strongly improved his position to challenge the front runners, and in the very last 100m, his sprint outclassed everyone to snatch the historic first title in the inaugural tournament. While he finished the race just below 13 minutes, precisely 12:59.24 minutes, it was his season-best performance.
Cole Hocker and Parker Wolfe, both from the United States, finished in second and third positions, respectively, with Hocker posting a season-best finish of 13:00.05. The other Americans, Nico Young, Grant Fisher, and Graham Blanks, claimed the fifth, sixth, and seventh places, respectively, while Biniam Mehary from Ethiopia earned the fourth position.

Who is Jakob Ingebrigtsen?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway has two Summer Olympic gold medals, winning them in Tokyo 2020 in the 1500m and in Paris 2024 in the 5000m. The four-time men’s 5000m European Athletics Championships gold medalist, including the latest one in 2026, also claimed two World Athletics Championships golds in this event (2022 and 2023).
