Melissa Jefferson-Wooden Wins Women's 100m Title at 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship

American athlete Melissa Jefferson-Wooden set a world-leading record in the women’s 100m Final event to claim the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship title in Budapest (Hungary) on Saturday. 


Melissa took 10.62 seconds to finish the sprint race final, as she put behind the reigning Summer Olympics gold and silver medalists Julien Alfred (10.74) from Saint Lucia and Sha'Carri Richardson (10.76) from the United States, respectively. It was a tight battle between these three favourites, while Melissa got a good start and held that to the finish, as she was unbeatable in the last 30m.

Who is Melissa Jefferson-Wooden?

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden from the United States was a key member of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics gold-medal-winning women’s 4 × 100 m relay team. In the last Summer Olympics, she secured a bronze medal in the women’s 100m event.
