Serbian star athlete Ivana Vuleta won the gold medal in the women’s long jump event in the World Athletics Championships 2023 by setting up a World Leading record.


World Athletics Championships 2023: Women’s Long Jump – Serbian Ivana Vuleta clinched a historical gold medal for her country

On the second day of the Championships (20 August), the 33-year-old Vuleta dominated from the second round of the final women’s long jump event with 7.05m. In the fifth round, the Serbian broke Jamaican Ackelia Smith’s World Leading record (7.08m) with a jump of 7.14m. It sealed her gold medal as the silver medallist United States athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall managed 6.91m.

It was the third World Championships medal for the Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medallist Vuleta. After winning bronze medals in the 2013 and 2015 World Championships editions, she finally became the first Serbian to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships history.

Vuleta is a successful long jumper in global indoor competitions, including two gold medals in the World Indoor Championships.


Romania recorded first medal in the World Athletics Championships 2023


Romanian Alina Rotaru-Kottmann won the bronze medal in the Budapest event by achieving the mark of 6.88m. It was the first medal for Romania in World Athletics Championships 2023.

German athlete Malaika Mihambo, the reigning Olympics and World Athletics Championships 2019 and 2022 gold medallist, missed out on the Budapest event due to a thigh injury.
