Korea Open 2023: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Become First Indian Doubles To Win Korea Open

The World ranking no.3 in the men’s doubles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created a new history for India by winning the Korea Open 2023. It was the first time in Indian badminton history any doubles pair won Korea Open title.

Korea Open 2023 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Become First Indian Doubles To Win Korea Open

The BWF World ranking no.3 in the men’s doubles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created a new history for India by winning the Korea Open 2023 title. It was the first time in Indian badminton history any doubles pair won a Korea Open title.

In the Final of the Korea Open 2023 on Sunday (23 July), the top-seeded Satwiksairaj and Chirag dramatically beat the no.1 ranked men’s doubles pair, Indonesian top-seeded Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto. The three-game Final scoreline was 17-21, 21-13, 21-14, where the Indian pair made a solid title-winning comeback after losing the first game.

In the Semi-final, Satwiksairaj and Chirag also beat the second-ranked men’s doubles pair, Chinese Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang (21-15, 24-22).

(4th overall title in 2023)

It was the third 2023 BWF World Tour title and fourth overall competition success for the Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj and Chirag. Apart from winning the gold medal in the Badminton Asia Championships 2023, the pair has now bagged the 2023 BWF World Tour titles of Swiss Open (Super 300), Indonesia Open (Super 1000) and the latest Korea Open (Super 500).

Meanwhile, it was the third Super 500 title for the men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj and Chirag. Previously, they clinched Thailand Open 2019 and India Open 2022.


(7th BWF World Tour title)

Overall, it was the seventh BWF World Tour title for this Indian men’s doubles pair.


(First Korea Open title for any Indian doubles partners)

However, it was the first time an Indian doubles set-up won a Korea Open. Also, it was India’s second title-winning success in the Korea Open history, after PV Sindhu won the women’s singles in the 2017 edition.
