Juan Marichall

As one of that top hurlers of the pitching rich 1960s. Marichall posted all six of his 20 win seasons in that decade, leading the NL in victories twice. He also led the league twice in complete games, shutouts, innings and WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). He led the league in winning percentage in 1966 and in ERA in 1969.

For his career, Marichal went 243 – 142, which for many years was the top win total among Latin American pitchers. Nine times his season ERA was under 3.00, and his career mark was a sparkling 2.89.

Willie Mays

The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Francisco Giants tonight in a battle of NL West Powerhouses. Both teams are tied for the division lead at 86 – 50.

The Giants arrived in San Francisco in 1958 during the same season that the Dodgers, their East Coast rivals, moved to Los Angeles. Since moving to the West Coast , the Giants have won 8 NL West Division titles, 6 NL pennants, and 3 World Series championships.

Despite fielding two of baseball's all time best players in Willie Mays and Barry Bonds, the Giants suffered through a 56 year championships drought following the move to the Bay Area, San Francisco ended the streak in 2010, followed by championships in 2012 and 2014.

Mike Piazza

Mike Piazza is an Italian American former professional baseball player, most famous for playing for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Piazza`s father recognized his son`s natural talent at the young age of 5 and began encouraging him to pursue his dreams of baseball. He gave up his first base position and learned to be a catcher in order to increase his chances of reaching the Major Leagues, he also became a good hitter.

He won the National League MLB Rookie of the year award in 1993, he played seven seasons for the Dodgers until he was traded to the Florida Marlins in 1998. He was then quickly traded to the New York Mets, and helped the team to two consecutive playoff appearances in 1999 and 2000. Piazza was inducted into the New York Mets hall of fame in 2013 and is also actively involved with the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago.

As a 12 time all star player, Piazza has been described as the best offensive catcher of all time, as he holds the career record for homes runs hit by a catcher, with a totals of 427.  Most recently, Piazza was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

Teoscar Hernandez

Teoscar Hernandez proved he is the real deal in 2021. The Blue Jays had a stacked line up last year due to the Semien signing and the emergency of Teoscar Hernandez. We know all about Bichette, Vlad and semien but Teoscar was just traded over from the Astros in 2017.

Even though Houston didn't think he was that good, they traded him to Toronto for reliever Francisco Liriano. The Blue Jays have had openings in the outfield for years now, so Hernandez got an opportunity to play through his first couple of rough years.

He broke out in the shortened 2020 season to win a Silver Slugger award. Then in 2021 he repeated and also became an all star for the 1st time. He hits 296 32HRS and 116RBIs in 2021.

Lou Bock

It's going to be a good one tonight when the first place St. Louis Cardinals take on the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Both teams look to be postseason contenders and have identical 23 – 17 records.

The Cardinals have been one of the most successful franchises in baseball over their 139 year history. St. Louis has won 11 World Series Championships, 19 NL pennants and 14 division titles in the NL East.  Cardinals players have won 20 league MVPs, four Triple Crowns and three Cy Young Awards.
