The 21-year-old Indian boxer Ankush Panghal won the gold medal in the men’s boxing event at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating South Korean Kim Minseong (4-0) in the Final.
In the first round, the South Korean boxer got a warning, and at the end, Ankush convincingly won the gold medal match. While all five judges favoured Ankush in the second round, the Indian got favourable results from four judges in both the first and third rounds, as the final result was 4-0 for Ankush.
Earlier, Ankush defeated Hamsa Vogel from Bahrain and Nekruz Salimov from Tajikistan in the round of 16 and the quarterfinal, respectively, to confirm a medal for the nation by qualifying for the Semifinals. Later, in the Semifinal, he beat Uzbek Fazliddin Erkinboev by 4-1 to advance to the Final.

In 2025, Ankush Panghal won a silver medal in the World Boxing Cup in New Delhi. In the Commonwealth Games 2026, he won his first CWG medal after winning the gold by beating English Dimeji Shittu in the men’s 80kg Final. In that CWG 2026 Final, Ankush made a brilliant comeback from 0-5 down in the opening round to snatch the gold medal.
