Unstoppable Mirabai Chanu in CWG 2026
Mirabai Chanu was the favorite to defend her last two CWG gold medals (2018 and 2022). In the snatch event, although she failed the first attempt of 82 kg, she was successful in that lift on her second attempt and set new Commonwealth and Games records by lifting 85 kg in her last attempt in that event.
Mirabai started the clean & jerk event with the games record of 105 kg, which she failed on her first attempt but set the record after successfully lifting on her second attempt.
With the successful lifts of 85 kg and 105 kg, Mirabai finished the game with a new Games record of 190 kg to secure the gold medal, while there was hardly any competition against her.
Malaysian Irene Jane Henry was the second best by the end of the snatch round after her successful lift of 77 kg, as she secured the bronze medal (77 kg + 90 kg = 167 kg). In the meantime, Nigerian Ruth Nyong closely beat the Malaysian for the silver medal battle after successfully lifting 93 kg in the clean & jerk event (75 kg + 93 kg = 168 kg).
