The men’s javelin throw produced two medals for India in the Commonwealth Games 2026. While the favourite Neeraj Chopra claimed the silver medal, Yashvir Singh stunned everyone by snatching the bronze medal with his late impressive performance.
Neeraj Chopra clinched silver with season-best throw
Starting the final with the throw of 80.97m, Neeraj Chopra produced his season-best throw, 85.83m in his second attempt, which proved enough to secure the silver medal. While his next two throws managed the distances of 81.29m and 80.73m, respectively, his last two were foul throws.
Yash Vir Singh produced personal-best throw in last attempt to snatch bronze
Neeraj Chopra’s native partner Yash Vir Singh was struggling to finish among the top five, same as another Indian Rohit Yadav. While Rohit had the best throw of 81.56m to finish in seventh place, Yash recorded only one 80+m throw in his first five throws, fighting with 81.33m. However, Yash produced his personal best performance in his sixth attempt with the 85.41m distance, as he strongly challenged Neeraj and claimed the bronze medal.
Sri Lankan Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage had only one legal throw, but it was enough to strongly win the gold medal. His second attempt managed the distance of 89.75m, which nobody could challenge.
Neeraj Chopra, who has one gold medal (2020) and one silver medal (2024) in the Summer Olympics, has now claimed two CWG medals. Earlier, he won the gold medal in the 2018 edition.
In the meantime, Yash Vir Singh won the men’s javelin throw event at the G Arzumanov Memorial 2025 with the throw of 78.32m. In the Asian Athletics Championships, he finished in fifth position with the throw of 82.57m.
