8th September 1990 was the birthday of one of the most destructive batsmen of the modern era. A batsman who proved his mettle in all three formats of international cricket as well as in franchise cricket in recent years. A batsman who not only has the fastest one-day international hundred for England, he is the record holder of five out of the 11 fastest ODI centuries for England.

Jos Buttler was born at Taunton in Somerset on this day. He displayed his cricketing skills and batting ability from an early age and qualified through the various age-group teams for Somerset. Not only batting, but he also had another dimension in his game and was a solid wicketkeeper for Somerset from a young age.

Based on his performance for Somerset and England Youth squads, Buttler made his international debut in 2011 in a T20 match against India. Gradually he made himself regular in the limited over squads and scored a 99 against West Indies in March 2014. By May 2014 he had his maiden ODI hundred at Lord’s against Sri Lanka off just 61 balls. This was the then fastest ODI hundred for England. He also made his test debut in July of that year with a blistering 85 against the touring Indians.

He went to the 2015 World cup with the England squad and held on to his place despite an overall unsuccessful tournament for the team. In the very first match after the World cup, Buttler scored another 66-ball hundred against the World cup finalist New Zealand. More such innings came on his way and on 20th November, 2015 he broke his own record to register a hundred off just 46 balls against Pakistan at Dubai. At that point, Buttler held the record for three fastest ODI hundreds for England and the entire world cricket started to recognize this awesome talent.

Buttler was not regular in test squad and tried very hard to make himself a regular member and was successful in 2014 and since then kept his spot in a strong English outfit.

In ODIs, he is reaching new heights regularly and eight of his nine ODI hundreds came in less than 100 balls with faster ones came off 46, 50 and 60 balls. Buttler is a brilliant entertainment and started building a fan base of his own throughout the globe in recent years.
