One of the most prolific batsmen in the current generation for India, Rohit Sharma was born on 30th April, 1987. Well-known in the cricketing circuit from the very early age, Rohit grew up through age-group cricket and also represented Indian in the Under-19 cricket World Cup in 2006.

His India debut came during India’s tour of Ireland and England post the debacle of 2007 World Cup but his first innings of note came during the first edition of world T20 later this year when in his second T20 match he delivered a 50 off 40 balls.

Rohit’s career wasn’t smooth initially as he showed tendency of throwing away good starts and tried hitting early even before getting set in his early days. No one was doubtful about his talent but execution was not there. Even in test cricket, he started with two brilliant hundreds to show what he could do but then he failed to continue his form and was exposed in overseas conditions. Many of his test innings started brightly but finished abruptly when he tried to hit one shot too many and got out.

But Rohit proved himself as a revelation in one day cricket once he started opening from 2013 season. As opener he is one of the best and can boast of a brilliant record. He is the only player to score three ODI double hundreds including a massive 264 at Eden Gardens, his favourite ground. As an opener his ODI average is around 56 and he had a very successful 2017 and 2018 during which he also registered the joint fastest T20 hundred off just 35 balls in international cricket. His ODI batting average was well above 60 in this period and he delivered big scores regularly to show his value in the team.

Rohit has also proved his quality as captain with multiple IPL triumph for Mumbai Indians. Even for India his captaincy record in ODI and T20 are very impressive. He comes as a thoughtful captain and also he has proved that captaincy does not affect his own performance and one of his three ODI double hundreds was scored as captain.

Currently Rohit is busy with IPL and putting all his effort for a fourth IPL title for MI. But come June, he will be the most important player for India along with Virat Kohli in the World Cup. Rohit’s good form and ideas from a sound cricketing brain is all India need for a great showing in the World Cup.
