The bowlers they produced were the best in the world and that’s the reason why many bowlers became captains of the Pakistan team unlike the batters who captained the other nations.

Many great leaders have been there in the history of Pakistan cricket and they are celebrated even today by their fans and deservedly so. It will be interesting to see the Top 5 most successful captains in Pakistan cricket history among a litany of greats of the game of cricket.


1. Imran Khan (89 matches won ): 



It should come as no surprise at all that the greatest cricketer to play the game of cricket from Pakistan is it’s most successful leader yet. He revolutionized cricket in Pakistan unlike any other before him. He was a true leader and all the other team members respected him immensely and his decisions were final always. In the test format he led his team to 14 test match wins in the 48 test matches he captained but it was the ODI format that made him the most iconic leader in its history. Imran Khan retired before the 1992 World Cup but was requested to come back and lead the country one last time and he led his nation to World Cup glory. In the 139 ODI matches he was captain, Pakistan won 75 off them .

 

2. Wasim Akram (78 matches won): 



After the 1992 World Cup, Imran Khan officially retired from cricket and Pakistan cricket needed a new and young leader and the great Wasim Akram was chosen for the job and for 7 years he was the captain, the Pakistan team reached incredible heights in both the formats of the game. In the 25 test matches he captained, Pakistan won an impressive 12 off them and in the ODI format he led the team in 109 matches and the team won 66 matches under his leadership. One of the all time greats in the history of the game.

 

3. Misbah-Ul-Haq (71 matches won): 



From 2008-2017, he was the captain of Pakistan cricket in both the formats and it was under his leadership that the Pakistan team started winning more regularly against the top teams she he captained the team really well and was a calming influence. He captained the country in 56 test matches and he won 26 out of those and in the shorter format of the game he led the Pakistan team 87 times and the team won 45 matches out of the ones he led. One of the best captains in Pakistan cricket history.

 

4. Inzamam-Ul-Haq (62 matches won): 



Inzamam-Ul-Haq was the best batter to ever become the captain of Pakistan. His speciality was the ODI format but he did decently in the test format as well. He was someone who believed in leading from the front by scoring the most number of runs for the team . He led the Pakistan team in 31 test matches and only won 11 matches whereas in the ODI format he led the team in 87 matches, the team won an impressive 51 matches. One of the batting greats of Pakistan cricket.

 

5. Waqar Younis (47 matches won): 



Another great bowler from Pakistan cricket who led the cricket team for a long time and did exceedingly well in both the formats of the game. His test match record is outstanding as he led the team in only 17 matches and won a staggering 10 matches out of those and in the ODI format he led the team in 62 matches and Pakistan won 37 matches and it can be said he was one of the most successful captains in the history of Pakistan cricket
