TEAM INDIA COMPLETES 50th Win at Cricket World Cup

India registered their 50th Win in the Cricket World Cup when they defeated Afghanistan. Here is the record of team India in Cricket World Cup so far, with their wins and losses against each team in Cricket World Cup.

India’s win against Afghanistan at South Hampton happens to be their 50th win at the Cricket World Cup. India defeated a spirited Afghanistan by 11 in a thrilling contest. Mohammad Shami’s last over hat trick helped India achieve the Milestone. India so far have been undefeated in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, with one game being washed out against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

India became the second side after Australia and New Zealand to complete 50 victories in the World Cup. 5 time champions Australia has won the most matches with 67 wins, whereas the Kiwis have won 52 matches so far. Team India’s first victory came in the inaugural edition of the World Cup in 1975. Since then India has lifted the World Cup’s on two occasions in the year 1983 and 2011 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni respectively.

India’s record against each team 


Australia: India has played 12 matches so far Against Australia in the World Cup, including 2019 World Cup match. They have the worst record against the Aussies as they won just 4 times against them and lost 8 times. 


Pakistan: IT’s 7 out of 7 against the arch-rivals, as India has beaten them in every single encounter. India maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated Pakistan again at Manchester in their 2019 World Cup match. Interestingly when Pakistan became champions in 1992, India had beaten them in the Round Robin Stage in Sydney. 


England: India has faced England 7 times in the World Cup, with both teams winning 3 times each. They also played a tied match in the 2011 Cricket World Cup at Bengaluru. 


South Africa: In the 5 matches played against South Africa so far, India has only managed to beat them only two times and has faced 3 losses. India’s first Victory came against South Africa when they defeated them in a one-sided game at Melbourne. The second win came in India’s first match at this year’s World Cup, when Virat and his men defeated the Proteas side at South Hampton. 


NEW ZEALAND: Kiwis have had the upper hand on India, as far as the World Cup is concerned. In the 7 matches between the two sides, New Zealand has won four whereas India has won 3 times. 


Sri Lanka: Much like New Zealand, Sri Lanka has also tasted success more times against India in the World Cup. In 8 matches, Sri Lanka has won 4 and India has only won 3 with one match ended with no result. 


Bangladesh: The Bangladesh Tigers defeated India in the 2007 World Cup, which so far has been one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. Although India came back and defeated them in the opening match played in Dhaka in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. India also defeated Bangladesh in the Quarter Final of the 2015 World Cup at Melbourne. 


Zimbabwe: In 9 matches played against Zimbabwe, India has won 8 times and has lost only once. 


Windies: India has won 5 matches against the Windies, and has lost 3 times. 


Kenya: India has played 4 times against Kenya, and has never lost to them. 


Afghanistan/ Bermuda/ East Africa/ Namibia/ UAE: India has played one match against each of the associate nations and has won every match. 


Ireland/ Netherlands: In two matches played against both Ireland and Netherlands, India has beaten them both in every match.
