Arzan Nagwaswalla Creates History In Indian Cricket By Becoming First Indian Bowler To Record 2 Six-Wicket Hauls In T20 Cricket

During the match between Railways and Gujarat at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023/24 on October 25, 2023, Gujarat bowler Arzan Nagwaswalla equalled the record bowling figures in SMAT history. He also became the first Indian and first pacer to record two six-wicket hauls in T20 cricket.

Arzan Nagwaswalla had the bowling figures 4-2-13-6

JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, hosted that match. After Gujarat chose to field first, Railways' batting was shaken by the left-arm medium bowler Arzan Nagwaswalla. He took four wickets in his first spell that stretched to three overs. His powerful bowling led Gujarat to destroy Railways to 29/6.

Upendra Yadav’s 64 runs and some lower-orders fightbacks helped Railways to set up the challenging total of 149 all out in 20 overs. In the final over of that innings, Nagwaswalla took two back-to-back wickets and ended that innings with the bowling figures 4-2-13-6.

In reply, Gujarat comfortably chased down the target in 15.1 overs after losing both the openers. While the opener Aarya Desai scored 44 runs, Saurav Chauhan scored 48 not out off 22 balls in that eight-wicket win.

Arzan Nagwaswalla became the first Indian to record six-wicket hauls in T20 cricket twice

While Hyderabad pacer Ravi Teja recently recorded the best bowling figures in SMAT history with 6/13 against Chhattisgarh, Nagwaswalla equalled that record against Railways (Check List 1).

Meanwhile, just like Ravi Teja, Nagwaswalla also holds the joint second position on the list for best T20 bowling figures by Indians (Check List 2).

On the other hand, it was Arzan Nagwaswalla’s second six-wicket haul in his T20 career. His first such experience was 6/19 against Maharashtra in 2021. He became the first Indian and first overall pacer to record a six-wicket haul twice in T20 cricket. After Ajantha Mendis and Shakib Al Hasan, Nagwaswalla became the third bowler to record two six-wicket hauls in T20 cricket (Check List 3).
