India women’s cricket team successfully defended the Asian Games gold medal with a dominating victory against Sri Lanka Women in the Asian Games 2026 Final. It was also India’s first gold medal at the Asian Games 2026.
In the final, India women captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first. With the dominant batting performance, India women scored 216/3 in 20 overs, the record-breaking WT20I total at the Asian Games. In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 69 runs, as India women won the final by 147 runs.
Indian openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided a perfect start to set the tempo with a 99-run partnership for the first wicket in 10 overs. Verma scored 48 off 29 balls with three sixes and three fours. Smriti had another good 42-run second-wicket partnership with the captain Harmanpreet Kaur before the skipper was out for 19 off 17 balls.
With the help of five fours and seven sixes, Smriti scored 79 off 45 balls before losing her wicket in the 17th over. Richa Ghosh later had a brilliant cameo of 49 not out off just 22 balls with six fours and three sixes, as India women secured a big total in the final.
Among the Lankan bowlers, Sugandika Kumari (1/37), Kavisha Dilhari (1/35), and Chamudi Praboda (1/34) managed to claim a wicket.
In reply, only three Lankan batters managed to reach double-digit scores. While captain Chamari Athapaththu scored 29 off 21 balls, Kavisha Dilhari (11) and Kaushini Nuthyangana (14) were the other double-digit scores in that innings.
Deepti Sharma once again shone with three wickets (3/6) in her four-over quota, while Shafali Verma (2/3), Shreyanka Patil (2/9), and Shree Charani (2/13) got two wickets each to bundle out the opponents to a paltry total.
