Fortress Gabba has been broken once again as West Indies stunned the hosts Australia in the day/night pink-ball Test at Brisbane by winning the second and last Test of the series by eight runs. It was Australia’s first day/night Test defeat as well as West Indies’ first Test win in Australia after 1997.


The 2024 Brisbane pink-ball Test was completely thrilling. Trailing the series by 1-0, West Indies chose to bat first in the day/night Test and scored 311 runs, thanks to fight-back from the middle and lower-order batters.

In their first innings, Australia were once struggling at 54/5. Opener Usman Khawaja (75), wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey (65), and skipper Pat Cummins (64*) inspired the Aussies to score 289/9 before their strategic declaration.


In the third innings of the match, West Indies scored 193/9 as the last batter Shamar Joseph (3) retired hurt due to a foot injury during the innings.

Chasing down the 216 runs target in the fourth innings, Australia were bowled out for 207 runs. While the opener Steven Smith bravely fought with his unbeaten 91-run knock, unstoppable Shamar Joseph inspired the entire Caribbean team with his seven-wicket haul in the fourth innings. Joseph ended that innings with the incredible bowling figures 11.5-0-68-7.

With this Caribbean’s eight-run victory, the series also ended level by 1-1. However, Australia held the trophy.
