Australian Steffan Nero created a world record in blind cricket

Steffan Nero, the Australian blind male cricketer, recently created a new world record as he became the first batter to record a triple-century in the blind ODI cricket (male).

It was the first game of the three-match ODI series between Australia Blind and New Zealand Blind in the part of the CommBank International Inclusion Series, which was scheduled last Tuesday (14th June) at Geoff Dymock Oval.

Steffan Nero broke Pakistan cricketer Masood Jan’s record

Australia Blind won the toss and chose to bat first. In-form opener Steffan Nero scored 309 not out from 140 balls to help his national team to manage the mammoth first innings total of 541/2 in 40 overs.

It was the first tripe century recorded in the male blind ODI history. Previously, Pakistan cricketer Masood Jan was holding the world record of most runs in the male blind ODI history with 264 not out against South Africa at Roshanara Club on 19 Nov 1998. It was a match during the first cricket World Cup for the blind.

Steffan Nero is an in-form batter at present. Before his latest blind cricket world record, he also scored two consecutive centuries (113 & 101*) in T20 matches against New Zealand Blind, which were also part of the ongoing CommBank International Inclusion Series.

In the mammoth 541/2, there were also two 50s and one 42-run knock along with 75 extras.

In reply, New Zealand Blind were all out for 272 runs in 39.2 overs as Australia Blind won the game by 269 runs.
