Australian opening batter David Warner broke one of the greatest international cricket records of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. The 36-year-old Aussie left-handed batter Warner broke Sachin’s most international centuries record as an opener.

It was the second game of the five-match ODI series between the hosts South Africa and the visitors Australia at Bloemfontein. The Aussies earned a 2-0 lead in the series after winning the second match by 123 runs. In that game, Australia set a mammoth first innings ODI total of 392/8 in 50 overs.


David Warner recorded the 46th international century

Aussie opener David Warner had a strong role to provide a great start for the visitors after losing the toss. Warner completed his 20th ODI century and 46th international hundred in 85 balls, as he scored 106 runs in 93 balls (12 fours and three sixes) before Andile Phehlukwayo bowled him.

Also, the last ODI hero Marnus Labuschagne scored 124 runs in 99 balls (19 fours and only six), while another opener Travis Head (64 off 36 balls; nine fours and three sixes) and Josh Inglis (50 off 37 balls; seven fours and only six) managed firing half-centuries.


Most international centuries as an opener: David Warner surpassed Sachin Tendulkar

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar previously held the record for most international centuries as an opener with 45 hundreds (45 ODI hundreds).

With the latest ODI century at Bloemfontein, Warned surpassed Tendulkar to set a new world record for most centuries as an opening batter in international cricket history. The left-handed Aussie batter has now recorded 46 international centuries, all as an opener (25 Test hundreds, 20 ODI centuries, and one T20I hundred).
