Decoding the Fab Five of Cricket

Modern Day Cricket had a Fab 4 but one batter has made his way to the list and made it a Fab Five and all these 5 batters have been the best in the last decade and all the other batters have revolved around them and they are still going strong and all of them have a lot to give. These batters are Virat Kohli from India, Joe Root from England, Steve Smith from Australia, Kane Williamson from New Zealand and Babar Azam from Pakistan.

Babar Azam is the one who has made this list from a Fab 4 to the Fab Five of cricket and Babar Azam has earned his place in this exclusive club and he will want to reach the stats of the greats in this list.

So, let’s look at each one individually.

Virat Kohli – India

Virat Kohli is the first name on this list and he has been the best all format batter in the world for the last 10 years plus and therefore he absolutely deserves to be on this list. Virat Kohli has been playing cricket since 2008 and so far he has played 109 Test Matches, 274 ODIs and 115 T20IS and he is only one of 2 players to play 100 Matches in each of the 3 formats and he has a combined run tally of 25000+ runs and no one has scored more runs than him in this Fab Five. And he is also the most technically correct player in this list. Virat Kohli is second on the all time list with 75 international hundreds so far and with a lot more to come.

Steve Smith – Australia

Steve Smith is the second name in this list and in this list he is probably the best test batter along with Joe Root and his numbers in test cricket are incredible and his numbers in the white ball cricket are not bad either. He has played 98 Test Matches till now and will complete 100 Test Matches during the ongoing Ashes Series. He has scored 8963 Test runs at an average of 60 and in the White ball he has made 6000 runs combined and he has a total of 43 international hundreds. He can better his record in T20S to compete with Virat Kohli in white ball cricket.

Joe Root – England

Joe Root is the one in this list who has been the most Improved cricketer in the last 3-4 years and the resurrection he has had is truly remarkable. He has played the most number of test matches out of everyone with 131 Test Matches and he has scored 11122 runs so far at an average of 50+ with 30 hundreds and in ODI Cricket as well he has made over 6000 runs at an average of 50 Plus. In T20S though his record is not as good. Joe Root is reinventing himself and that is great to see.

Kane Williamson – New Zealand

Kane Williamson is the other great all format batter in this list after Virat Kohli because his record in all 3 formats is great. He has played in 94 Test Matches for New Zealand and he has made 8124 runs at an average of 55 and he has made.28 hundreds and in ODIs he has 13 ODI Hundreds at an average of 48 and in the shortest format he has 2500 runs at an average of 33 ak in total he has close to 17000 international runs. And he has a lot left in his tank and the 4 of them can have numbers which will be one of the best for their nations.

Babar Azam – Pakistan

Babar Azam is the youngest in this list but the way he is batting he will become the highest run getter for Pakistan no doubt and he is only 27. Babar Azam has played 47 Test Matches and he has scored.3700 runs at an average of 49 and in ODIs he is the master as in 100 Matches he has made over 5000 runs at an average of 60 and in the T20I format in 104 Matches he gas 3400+ runs and he has 30 international hundreds till now with many many more to come from his bat. He will be a member of this group for years.

All these 5 great batters are from different nations which tells the fans that all these 5 nations are the best in cricket and they will keep producing the best batters as well as the best bowlers.
