Deodhar Trophy 2023: Captain Nitish Rana Shines As An All-rounder - Prabhsimran Singh And Abhimanyu Easwaran Score Centuries

On the second day of the Deodhar Trophy 2023, South Zone claimed a thrilling win against West Zone in a low-scoring game, while North Zone successfully defended a 300+ target and East Zone managed a comfortable chasing.

After Central Zone chose to field first, North Zone scored 307/8 in 50 overs. While the opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 121 runs off 107 balls (13 fours and five sixes), skipper Nitish Rana scored 51 runs off 50 balls (five fours and only six) before getting run out. Also, Mandeep Singh scored crucial 43 runs off 42 balls (three fours).

Among the Central Zone bowlers, Venkatesh Iyer (2/50) and Yash Thakur (2/69) bagged two wickets each.

At chasing, opener Shivam Chaudhary (51 runs in 60 balls; five fours and only six), the no.3 batter Yash Dubey (78 runs in 92 balls; ten fours) and the no.4 batter Upendra Yadav (52 runs off 55 balls; six fours) set up the solid tone for the Central Zone. But the next batters failed to handle the required run-rate pressure as they were bowled out for 259 runs in 47.4 overs.

Captain Nitish Rana also shined with the ball as he had bowling figures of 10-0-48-4. Also, Mayank Yadav (3/47) collected three wickets to secure North Zone’s first win in this competition.

After West Zone sent their opponents to bat first, South Zone were all out for 206 runs in 46.4 overs. Captain and opener Mayank Agarwal scored 98 runs in 115 balls with the help of nine fours, but only three more batters managed to reach double-digit scores, including the ninth and tenth batters. Arun Karthik was the second-highest scorer in that innings with 23 runs.

Parth Bhut bagged three wickets in the first innings (3/25), while Shams Mulani (2/42) and Rajvardhan Hangargekar (2/47) collected two wickets each.

In reply, West Zone batters were struggling from the beginning. Though the middle-order batters Sarfaraz Khan (42), Shivam Dube (29) and Atit Sheth (40) fought really hard, they ultimately lost by 12 runs.

Sai Kishore’s 3/44 and Washington Sundar’s 2/34 helped South Zone to bowl out their opponents for 194 runs in 36.2 overs.


North East Zone vs East Zone (Check the brief scores below): Abhimanyu Easwaran scored an unbeaten match-winning century after Riyan Parag’s 4-fer

East Zone chose to field first after winning the toss in the day/night one-day. Riyan Parag’s incredible bowling figures of 10-2-30-4 helped them to bundle out North East Zone for only 169 runs in 48 overs. The middle-order batter Rex Rajkumar scored 65 not out in 74 balls with the help of 10 fours, but his other partners failed to manage 30 runs.

In reply, opener Abhimanyu Easwaran dominated with 100 not out in 102 balls with 13 fours as East Zone reached the target in 31.3 overs after losing two wickets.

North East Zone vs East Zone (Day/Night match)

East Zone: 170/2 in 31.3 overs (Abhimanyu Easwaran 100*, Utkarsh Singh 29; Lee Yong Lepcha 2/34)

Result: East Zone won by 8 wickets (with 111 balls remaining)
