Eoin Morgan stint as captain of England

Eoin Morgan was one of the best captains of England in limited overs cricket. He was the first captain to win the ODI world cup for England in 2019. He is considered to have a fine cricketing brain in limited overs cricket. Recently 35-year-old Morgan left the cricketing world stunned with his decision to bid adieu to international cricket with immediate effect. Let us see some stats and information about Eoin Morgan as a captain of England.

Morgan started his International career in his native Ireland In 2006 and earned Praise for his unorthodox shot-making abilities. His yearning to achieve success made him switch his allegiance to England in 2009.  He played 16 test matches and his last appearance in the longest format of the game was back in 2012. The left-hander made his intentions clear to only focus on white ball cricket. The left-handed middle-order batter went on to lead the team in the limited-overs formats, first in 2011 and then during the World Cup in 2015, when England exited the tournament early, finishing 5th in Pool A below Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Since then England's approach to the 50-over game transformed and Morgan, who is regarded as one of the men behind England's revolution in One Day Internationals, backed that up by leading the country to their first ever ODI World Cup win in 2019.

In limited overs cricket, Morgan made a great impact with his bat, he has retired as England's all-time leading runscorer in ODIs and T20s. He scored 6957 runs in ODIs and 2458 runs in T20s. His tally of 225 ODI appearances and 115 T20s is another English record. In a storied carrier, Morgan also holds the world record for the highest number of sixes in an ODI inning, 17 against Afghanistan at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. Morgan also finished level with former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for most matches as captain in the T20 format. He captained England in 126 matches in ODIs out of which he won 76 and 40 were lost and 2 were tied. Also, he scored 4403 runs with 9 centuries at an average of 44.03. In 72 T20s as a captain, Morgan won 42 matches and lost 27 and 2 were tied.

As with all great players and leaders, he has changed the way the game has been played, and he has changed the way an entire generation and generations to come will play this form of the game. His legacy within the game will be felt for many years to come.
