Highest partnerships by Wicket in ODI History

As we know partnerships are very important in the game of cricket and these partnerships only help the team won the match. However it is not often talked about that partnerships in each wicket are important starting from the 1st wicket to the 10th , if the top order is unable to score runs then the middle and lower order batters need to stitch partnerships to take the team to a respectable score.

There have been many partnerships for each wicket in ODIs and they all have helped their team in one way or another. So, it will be very interesting to see who holds the record for the highest partnership for each wicket.

1st Wicket- John Campbell and Shai Hope (365 Runs): 


This partnership by John Campbell and Shai Hope vs Ireland is the record for the best opening partnership in ODI History. Both these batters were in a dangerous mood that day and didn’t look like getting out at all and they put together a record breaking stand of 365 runs which impressed everyone.

 

2nd wicket- Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels (372 Runs): 


This partnership other than being the record of the 2nd wicket is also the highest overall partnership in ODI cricket. That day Chris Gayle was in a six hitting mood as he smashed 16 sixes and Marlon Samuels hit an amazing century as well. This was a treat for the fans as they saw the universe boss at his imperious best.

 

3rd wicket- Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin  (258 Runs: 


It looks like West Indies like to make partnership records for every wicket as for the 3rd wicket as well it’s Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin who made 258 runs for the 3rd wicket against Bangladesh where both of them hit big hundreds and took the team to a match winning score as the West Indies won that match by 91 runs.

 

4th Wicket- Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja (275 Runs): 


India were in a spot of bother during this match at 26-3 and that is when these two batters stitched together a match winning partnership of 275 runs that day and both of them batted sensibly at first and then went all out and eventually India won that match by 42 runs.

 

5th Wicket- David Miller and JP Duminy (256 Runs): 


This record breaking partnership came in a crucial match of the World Cup of 2015 where South Africa were stuck at 83-4 and from there on David Miller and JP Duminy  started to stitch together a partnership and steadily they hit wonderful centuries and took the team to a winning total.

 

6th Wicket- Grant Eliott and Luke Ronchi (267 Runs): 


These two batters made such a big partnership such low down the order shows that skill, determination they must have showed that day. New Zealand was in a spot of bother and both these batters hit amazing hundreds and win New Zealand the match.

 

7th Wicket- Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid (177 Runs): 


Both Jos Buttler and Adil Radhid were in a hitting mood that day , Butler hit a blazing hundred and Adil hit a wonderful fifty and England went past 400 and comfortably won the match. This was an exhibition of batsmanship.

 

8th Wicket- Justin Kemp and Andrew Hall (138 Runs): 


Both these lower order batters helped South Africa that day to post a respectable total against a very strong Indian team that day and Justin Kemp hit a great century and South Africa won that match easily that day.

 

9th Wicket- Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga (132 Runs): 


This record breaking partnership came in a tense chase against a top Australian side and both Angelo and Malinga hit wonderful half centuries and won Sri Lanka the match with more than 5 overs to spare.

 

10th Wicket- Vivian Richards and Michael Holding (106 Runs): 


This partnership was a Viv Richards show all day as the charismatic batter showed all his skills that day and Holding that day was only giving him company as Viv Richards smashed an amazing 189 runs and West Indies won the match.
