Prithvi Shaw and his boys recently entered the record books by becoming the fourth Indian team to win the U19 World Cup. This has been the most number of times a team has won the U19 World Cup. And to add to the flavour was the fact that the tournament was played on the tough pitches of New Zealand. The team looked completely confident and thrashed all of their opponents. India had a perfect tournament and were unchallenged right through.

The main pillar of strength for this team was the coach ‘Rahul Dravid’. From the starting itself, he showed confidence in the boys. However, he could not win the World Cup during his playing days, but he deserved this world cup win. Dravid was also the head coach of the U19 Cricket team in 2016 which was the runner-up in that edition.

For most of the young boys who had played all of their lives on the flat pitches of India, getting into the move of these new pitches was really a tough task. But the Indian team landed a week before the tournament and played a couple of practice matches to ensure that they had enough idea about the pitches and how to carry forward the momentum. These preparations termed them as favourites right from the beginning of the tournament.

The most satisfying part of this team was the pace trio of Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Ishan Porel who damaged almost every batting line-up that came their way. This is obviously a rare sight when the Indian pacers dominate in every match and we are even more assured that the future of Indian pace bowling is in safe hands.

Well India have always been a good batting side and with the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Manjot Kalra and Shubham Gill on the top, there was no bowling attack which was shown mercy. They thrashed everyone and Shubham Gill also became the Player of the Tournament.

Apart from all this, the U19 players have been able to grab the eyes of the owners of the IPL franchises’ and they were able to grab a good price in the auctions which is a good sight to see. Well, all we hope is that they play a couple of good domestic seasons and then their entry is ensured in the senior team.
