During the crucial second game of the three-match WODI series between the hosts Bangladesh Women and the visitors India Women, Jemimah Rodrigues’ incredible all-round performances helped the tourist side to level the series. She became the first Indian female cricketer to score 50 runs and take four wickets in the same WODI match.
Jemimah Rodrigues: 86 runs in 78 balls
Leading by 1-0, the hosts Bangladesh Women chose to field first at Mirpur. India Women scored 228/8 in 50 overs, thanks to Rodrigues’ 86 runs off 78 balls with the help of nine fours.
Also, the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who once retired hurt for 48 runs, scored 52 runs in 88 balls with the help of three fours. Earlier, the opener Smriti Mandhana scored crucial 36 runs off 58 balls (four fours) when India’s first two wickets lost cheaply.
Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Nahida Akter (2/37) and Sultana Khatun (2/41) collected two wickets each.
Jemimah Rodrigues: 3.1-0-3-4
In reply, struggling from 38/3 in 13.4 overs, Bangladesh Women recovered well to 106/3, thanks to the fourth wicket partnership between Fargana Hoque (47 runs off 81 balls; five fours) and Ritu Moni (27 runs off 46 balls; three fours). But once that 68-run partnership was broken, the Bangladesh team's batting completely collapsed as they lost the last seven wickets in just 14 runs.
While Devika Vaidya began that collapse by dismissing Hoque, Jemimah Rodrigues destroyed the home batting. Devika had the bowling figures of 8-0-30-3, while Rodrigues had the bowling figures of 3.1-0-3-4. Before that WODI, Rodrigues took only one WODI wicket and one WT20I wicket.
Bangladesh Women were bundled out for only 120 runs (35.1 overs) as India Women levelled the series by 1-1 with a 108-run victory.
Jemimah Rodrigues produced rare WODI performance
Jemimah Rodrigues became the second Asian (after Pakistan cricketer Urooj Mumtaz) and 14th overall cricketer to record at least 50 runs and 4 wickets in the same WODI match. Meanwhile, it was the 16th time to experience a female player scored 50+ runs and took at least four wickets in a WODI.
