Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc became the fastest bowler to complete 50 wickets in the ODI World Cup during the early period of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

In the first Semi-final at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Indian right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami broke Mitchell Starc's firing record to set up a new record for the fastest 50 wickets in the ODI World Cup.

Hosts India faced New Zealand in the Semi-final at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium. After India scored a mammoth total of 397/4, Mohammed Shami had a key role in bowling to secure India's 70-run win.

Mohammed Shami completed 50 ODI World Cup wickets in 17 innings

When Shami took his third wicket of the match by dismissing the set Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, Shami became the first Indian bowler to complete 50 ODI World Cup wickets. It was Shami's only 17th ODI World Cup innings.

Mitchell Starc earlier set up the fastest 50 ODI World Cup wickets record in 19 innings. However, Shami achieved the milestone faster than Starc.

As Shami got seven wickets in the CWC 2023 first Semi-final (7/57), the Indian pacer has taken 54 wickets in his ODI World Cup career.
