Most Runs in Women's T20 World Cup History

In the fast-paced world of T20 cricket, there is no time to settle down and batters have to score quickly and under immense pressure. Doing that consistently on the world’s biggest stage is what separates ordinary players from true legends of the game. Over the years, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup has seen some incredibly explosive and dependable batters who have anchored innings, smashed records, and single-handedly won matches for their countries. From powerhouse openers to elite middle-order finishers, these "run-machines" have rewritten cricket history.

Here is the definitive list of the players who have scored the most runs in Women's T20 World Cup history:

1. Suzie Bates - 1235 Runs

One of the finest openers to have played the game, Suzie Bates is currently on top of the list of the highest run-scorers in the T20 World Cup. The New Zealand opener has scored 1235 runs in 43 innings at an average of 31.66 and she has a highest score of 94 not out which she scored against Pakistan in 2014. This will be the last time that we see Suzie Bates play for New Zealand as she has announced her retirement from international cricket post the tournament. It was an absolute pleasure to have witnessed her play at this level and expecting another high-scoring tournament for her.

2. Stafanie Taylor - 1088 Runs

The right-handed batter, Stafanie Taylor has been one of the finest players to have played for West Indies and she has been part of the setup for a long, long time. She has a tremendous record in this format, showing her credentials in her first game itself when she scored 90 in just 49 balls. She was just 17 years old at that time. Coming to the T20 World Cup, Taylor has scored 1088 runs in 37 innings at an average of 40.29 but her strike rate is one thing which she will look to improve. She currently strikes at below 100 in the tournament which is below her standards.

3: Alyssa Healy - 1008 Runs

The legendary former Australian captain, Alyssa Healy, takes the third spot on the list. In 39 World Cup innings, she has smashed 1,008 runs with a blistering strike rate of 129.39. Healy has also hit seven half-centuries in the tournament, with a top score of 83. One of her most memorable knocks was a match-winning 75 against India in the 2020 final in front of a massive crowd at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

4: Meg Lanning - 992 Runs

The former Australian skipper, Meg Lanning, stands at fourth in the list with 992 runs in 35 innings. Along with her runs, she averages 39.68 in the tournament, which is brilliant for this format. She is the only player from Australia to score a century in the T20 World Cup, having scored 126 against Ireland in 2014. As a skipper, Lanning has won five T20 World Cup titles and two ODI World Cup titles.

5. Chamari Athapaththu - 883 Runs

Chamari Athapaththu has scored 883 runs in 37 Women's T20 World Cup matches at an average of 24.52 and a strike rate of 109.68. Her record includes one century, three fifties, and a highest score of an unbeaten 106. She is also Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 122 fours and 13 sixes to her name.

These five legends show exactly what it takes to perform at the highest level. Scoring runs in a T20 World Cup is never easy, but these players have done it time and time again under immense pressure. As women's cricket gets faster and more competitive, the records set by these greats will serve as a huge inspiration for the next generation. While new stars will eventually rise to challenge these numbers, these batters have firmly written their names into cricket history.
