Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan created new history with the ball in hand, as he became the first bowler in T20 cricket history to record 650 wickets.
Rashid Khan completed his 650 T20 wickets during the first game of The Hundred 2025. His team, the last two-time champions Oval Invincibles faced London Spirit, where the Afghan leggie bagged three wickets to bundle out Spirit to only 80 runs and won the match by six wickets. Invincibles chased down the target in 13.4 overs after losing four wickets.
For the defending champions, while Sam Curran had the bowling figures of 3.4-0-18-3, Rashid Khan had the bowling figures of 4-1-11-3. Khan dismissed Wayne Madsen (10), Liam Dawson (1), and Ryan Higgins (12), and also took three catches to win the Player of the Match award.
Liam Dawson was Rashid Khan's 650th T20 wicket
Rashid Khan’s second wicket of the match was the dismissal of Liam Dawson, who was trapped for lbw. It was his 650th T20 wicket, as he created history by becoming the first bowler to reach this T20 milestone.
Early this year, Rashid Khan became the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket after surpassing former Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who picked up 631 T20 wickets in his career. Since then, the Afghan spinner is well ahead of others in the battle for most T20 wickets. Earlier in 2023, Rashid also became the first spinner to take 500 t20 wickets.
