Rohit Sharma creates history became 1st Indian to hit 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is in great form at present. During a crucial India vs New Zealand match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Rohit created history in Indian cricket as the right-handed batter became the first Indian to hit 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year. He also recently surpassed Chris Gayle to hit the most international sixes.

Before that day/night ODI match, Rohit hit 49 ODI sixes in 19 innings in 2023. He already set up the record for most ODI sixes by an Indian in a calendar year by breaking his previous record of 46 ODI sixes in 2017. He is also the only Indian to hit 300 ODI sixes.

Chasing down a 274-run target against New Zealand in the CWC 2023, Rohit smashed his first six of the match to Matt Henry in the second over of the second innings. That massive over-boundary helped Rohit to complete his 50 ODI sixes in 2023.

Captain Rohit hit four fours and four sixes during his powerful 46 runs knock in 40 balls against New Zealand. His batting set up a powerful tone for the hosts as Virat Kohli’s 95 runs played another important part in India’s four-wicket win in the game.

At the end of the match, Rohit smashed 53 ODI sixes in 2023. With six more over-boundaries in ODI, Rohit will set up a new world record for most ODI sixes in a calendar year.
