India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match home ODI series against Afghanistan, where the former Indian captain Rohit Sharma created history on Friday night (13 June).
Due to the rain interruptions at Dharamsala, the match was reduced to a game of 25 overs per side. After the Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss, he chose to field first. While Afghanistan scored 194 all out in 24.5 overs, India chased down the target in 22.5 overs after losing three wickets.
Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed a brilliant century, as he scored 102 off just 51 balls with the help of eight fours and eight sixes. While the visitors were once struggling at 26/3, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (27) and Azmatullah Omarzai (26) were the only other Afghan batters to manage double-digit scores. Among the Indian bowlers, debutants Gurnoor Brar (3/27) and Harsh Dubey (3/47) both picked up three wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh (2/27) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/31) also got two wickets each.
In reply, opener Rohit Sharma was run out for 16 runs after a 46-run opening partnership with the captain Shubman Gill in 5.4 overs. While Ishan Kishan scored 34 runs, Gill continued his innings calmly to secure a comfortable win. KL Rahul remained not out for 39 off 19 balls with four fours and three sixes, while Gill scored 84 not out off 66 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.
