Not only that, we have also seen batters hitting plenty of sixes in an innings, which is only rising with time. One such rare feat is seeing a batter hit six sixes in an over, especially in international cricket. Only a handful of cricketers have achieved it, and here we are telling you all about it.

Herschelle Gibbs

Herschelle Gibbs was the first player to hit 6 sixes in an over in international cricket. Apart from hitting six sixes, what was most impressive is that he achieved the feat in a crucial tournament: the 50-over World Cup (ICC Cricket World Cup 2007). Gibbs took a liking to Daan Van Bunge and hit him for six sixes in the 30th over of the first innings. He ended up scoring 72 in 40 balls, which helped South Africa score 353 for 3 in their 40 overs.

Yuvraj Singh six sixes vs England

Yuvraj Singh

Who else but Yuvraj Singh from India? The T20 Legend is no surprise to see on this list. In the ICC World T20 2007, which India won, Yuvraj Singh played a very key role. In a crucial encounter against England, he took a special liking to Yuvraj Singh. After he was aggravated by the English star Andrew Flintoff, Yuvraj smacked Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over in Durban. That put him on the way to reaching his fifty in just 12 balls, the then-fastest in T20Is. It also helped India score 218/4, and they eventually won the game by 18 runs.

Kieron Pollard six sixes vs Sri Lanka

Caribbean star Kieron Pollard became the third cricketer to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket. He achieved the feat against Sri Lanka in March 2021 in a T20I. Chasing 132, the West Indies were in trouble at 62 for 4 when the skipper Pollard took matters into his own hands. He hit Akila Dananjaya for six sixes in the over to turn the tide in their favour. Dananjaya had taken a hat-trick earlier in the innings, and that was what made the knock from Pollard special.

Jaskaran Malhotra six sixes vs Papua New Guinea

The USA batter Jaskaran Malhotra became just the fourth cricketer to achieve the feat of hitting 6 sixes in an over, achieving it against Papua New Guinea in 2021. He hit Gaudi Toka to achieve the feat in the final over of the first innings of the second ODI between USA and PNG at the Al Amerat Stadium. He also became the first USA cricketer to score a century in ODIs as he scored a massive 173 not out in just 124 balls. That’s how devastating that innings was.

The latest entrant to the list was Dipendra Singh Airee from Nepal. In the ACC Men’s T20I Premier Cup 2024, Dipendra Singh Airee joined the elite list. In the game against Qatar, he was batting on 28 off 15 balls before starting the final over of the first innings. Kamran Khan came on to bowl that final over, and Airee went bang bang with six sixes to finish on 64 off just 21 balls. That has put him in the news, and we are sure to see him score big in the future as well.
