During the fourth quarter-final of the English Vitality Blast 2022, Somerset managed a new record total in this competition's history as well as they also recorded the largest victory (by runs) in this tournament history.
In that crucial knockout stage game of the T20 Blast, Somerset faced Derbyshire at Taunton last Saturday (9th July). After Derbyshire chose to field first, Somerset managed the first batting total of 265/5 in 20 overs.
Rilee Rossouw scored 93 off just 36 balls (8 fours and 7 sixes), and the opening wicketkeeper-batter Tom Banton scored 73 off 41 balls (4 fours and 6 sixes). There were also some crucial late cameos to guide the team to the massive first batting total.
The 265/5 is now the highest T20 Blast total. The previous highest total in T20 Blast history was 261/2 in 20 overs by Birmingham Bears against the hosts Nottinghamshire at Nottingham last month (17th June 2022).
However, 265/5 is now the fifth-highest total in T20 cricket history.

Somerset won by 191 runs
In reply, Derbyshire were bundled out for just 74 runs in 11.2 overs. While there were no 20+ scorers in that chasing, Peter Siddle (3/10) and Ben Green (3/17) bagged three wickets each in that innings.
While Somerset advanced to the semi-final of this competition by winning this game by 191 runs, it is the new record for the largest victory (by runs) in the T20 Blast history. The previous largest T20 Blast victory (by runs) was by 144 runs for Birmingham Bears against Worcestershire at Birmingham on 24th June 2022.
However, in the list of largest T20 victories (by runs), Somerset’s 191 runs win has taken the third spot.
