Suryakumar Yadav becomes 2nd batter to score 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year

During India vs Zimbabwe match in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022, Indian right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav became the first Indian and second overall cricketer to score 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year.

It was the last game of the Super 12 stage of this exciting competition. India thrashed Zimbabwe by 71 runs to the top of the Group 2 of this Super 12 stage. In that game at MCG, while India scored 186/5 (20 overs) after winning the toss, Zimbabwe were bundled out for just 115 runs (17.2 overs).

During the first innings of the game, while the opener KL Rahul scored 51 off 35 balls (3 fours and 3 sixes), Player of the Match Suryakumar Yadav smashed 61 not out off 25 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav: 1026 T20I runs in 2022

During that powerful batting performance, Suryakumar completed his 1000 T20I runs in the running calendar year. The Indian right-handed batter has scored 1026 T20I runs in 28 innings (average 44.60; strike-rate 186.54) in 2022.

After Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan, Suryakumar became the second batter to score 1000 or more T20I runs in a calendar year. Last year, Rizwan scored 1326 T20I runs.

Suryakumar Yadav: 10 T20I 50+ scores in 2022

In the meantime, Suryakumar Yadav also became the first Indian and third overall cricketer to score 10 or more T20I 50+ scores in a calendar year. In 2021, while the Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan recorded 13 T20I 50+ scores, Babar Azam hit 10 T20I 50+ scores.
